General
The need to protect the total coastline of Suriname against the foreseen sea level rise impact.
Technical
In the ocean in front of the coast of Suriname moving mud banks pose an integral part of the coastal protection. These moving banks provide form a natural protection if present. Currently, with a cycle of 30 years, if not present the coastline is subjected to erosion. With the rise of the seawater levels this erosion will be enhanced along the coastline. The impact on the population, livestock, flora as well as land loss and degradation will be evident. As part of the defense works a new northern road corridor from Albina to Nieuw Nickerie will be created.
